Meet the Mascot: Q+A With Davenport’s Willy and Wilson

January 26, 2026 - Meet the Davenport High School Wolves, Willy and Wilson! Willy, who is brought to life by 11th grader Drew Dimmitt, and Wilson, also known as 9th grader Jackson Kotowski, have become an integral part of the campus community. Read on to learn more about how these students came to be the DHS mascots.

  1. Tell me about how you became Willy and Wilson.
    • Willy: my 7th grade year I attended a Davenport basketball game, and while watching the game, I noticed the cheerleaders having to be the mascot. As a joke, I went up to the cheer coach and asked if I could try out the mascot suit. To my surprise she said sure! From that point forward I have been Willy the Wolf! I intend to also pursue being the mascot in college.
    • Wilson: My interest in being the mascot began in 8th grade. Although it was not as on the spot as Drew (Willy), I did the Universal Cheerleaders Associate (UCA) mascot camp at Texas State over the summer, liked it, and have been the Davenport mascot ever since!
  2. What do Willy and Wilson represent at DHS?
    • Willy: Willy represents all that Davenport is; He is the hype-man for the school and will do anything to proudly support any sport!
    • Wilson: Wilson is more of the fun-loving side of Davenport, representing the students who don’t take anything too seriously and just want to have fun.
  3. What is your favorite part about being Willy and Wilson?
    • Willy: Representing the school and community! I love being able to walk through the stands and interact with our community, making a lasting impression on the kids and watching the game.
    • Wilson: Getting to be silly without judgement. I also love watching the games and being on the field.
  4. What are some challenges you face as Willy and Wilson?
    • Willy: The heat! It is 20 degrees hotter in our suits. Especially during those August/September games, it can cause us to lose a lot of fluids in our body. To combat this we wear ice vests and take frequent breaks, we also get free gatorade and water from the trainers, which is helpful.
    • Wilson: The kids! I am not the best with little kids, so managing when they follow you around and want to touch you can be stressful.
  5. How do you balance being Willy and Wilson with your school life?
    • Willy: I am also in the band here at Davenport, so during halftime I occasionally perform as Willy, otherwise I have to rush to get into my band uniform. Managing all of the mascot appearances with my school work can be hard, but it is something I really enjoy doing, so it's worth it.
    • Wilson: I am on the wrestling team here at Davenport which does not conflict with me being Wilson. So far, I am having an easy time balancing school life with being Wilson.
  6. If Willy and Wilson had a favorite song, what would it be?
    • Willy: Cant Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers because he is so hype and he can’t stop bringing energy to the crowd. I feel like that really fits his character and what he represents to Davenport.
    • Wilson: Something that is easy to jam out to, like Gangnam Style, because he is a very carefree and fun-loving character.
  7. What has been Willy and Wilson’s best moment so far?
    • Willy: The Citrus Bowl where I performed as Willy with 50 other All-American high school mascots from across the nation. I crushed it and had so much fun meeting all the other mascots!
    • Wilson: Doing the playoff games. This season has been really great and I have had a lot of shining moments.
  8. Who would Willy and Wilson admire and why?
    • Willy: The teachers here at Davenport because they work so hard and they make up what this school is about, which is community and supporting one another. They also are always showing support for Willy and Wilson.
    • Wilson: Our coaches! Our coaches are amazing and they lead our teams to be their best.
  9. What kind of legacy do you want to leave as Willy and Wilson?
    • Willy: I hope to make the mascot look as fun as possible. I’ve seen other schools not have a mascot because no one will try out, so I wanna make the mascot look like it is the coolest thing you can do and to not be intimidated by the suit.
    • Wilson: Try and get more people involved with being the mascot. There are some inconveniences like heat, which our coach helps the suit be as comfortable as possible, but besides that it is a very fun experience and is important to the heart of our school.

Thank you Willy and Wilson for spreading cheer on the Path to Success
